Auckland Boats Fill First Three Places

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 26. The tall Aucklander, N. R. Everett, won the fifth heat and took the lead on points when the Pacific Finn Cup yachting contest resumed in good conditions at Takapuna today. This was easily the best heat of the four that have been completed so far.

The moderate to fresh northerly remained true throughout the race.

There was a clean start, and for the first time the fleet had three hard slogs to windward. Subject to a decision on a protest against D. Schmidt, the points are:— N. R. Everett (Auckland), 4739; T. J. Speed (Auckland), 4676; M. T. Mitchell (Auckland), 4447; B. G. de Thier (Canterbury), 4446; R. H. Roberts (Auckland), 4503; D. E. Newell (Auckland), 4503; D. Schmidt (Auckland), 4196; C. Ryrie (Australia), 3844; M. Pope (Nelson), 3685; C. A. Roberts (Auckland), 3578.

Everett led almost from start to finish today. He increased his lead on the second man, P. H. Letcher (Auckland), by a slight margin on every leg of the course, and was Imin 28sec ahead at the end.

Everett’s previous platings in the series had been 44th, 10th and 2nd, in that order. Letcher, the Auckland champion, had his best race of the series, having twice finished in the 40s.

Of the Japanese, Kazuoki Matsuyama was 37th, Yoshikatusu Nozakl 44th, while Minamihiko Ozawas and Kensaku Hashimoto were last of 56 to finish.
