BENMORE TESTS

Transmissions To N.I. (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 24. The maximum test load transmitted so far from Benmore to the North Island was 150,000 kilowatts, an Electricity Department official said today. At times the tests had been for continuous runs of 24 hours, he said. To date 5.6 million units had been received by the North Island.

The first test transmission was on February 1 when 40,000 kilowatts were transmitted for three minutes. Test transmissions had since increased in both load and duration.

The greatest amount of energy received on one day was 2.1 million units last Monday, almost sufficient to supply Wellington city that day, or two-thirds of the output of Wairakei geothermal station.
