FOREST AND BIRD SOCIETY

North Canterbury Visit More than 300 members of the Canterbury branch of the Forest and Bird Protection Society travelled north, beyond Waiau, on Saturday to visit Sherwood, the property of Mr and Mrs P. I. Burbury. Mr Burbury spoke briefly of the station and its early history. The party then descended to the banks of the Lottery river. During the afternoon members went on walks, some crossing the river to view an area of bush on Mr C. R. Hosking’s property.

Numerous bellbirds were seen and heard, also the grey warbler and a native pigeon. On the outward journey the party observed a black-backed gull, harrier hawks, pukeko, paradise ducks, and red-billed gulls.
