Tactile Shows Fitness For Grand Final

(From Our Own Reporter) DUNEDIN. Tactile showed his fitness for the Pacers’ Grand Final tomorrow night when he worked over 12 furlongs at Forbury Park yesterday morning. The Hal Tryax stallion revelled in his task and will strip in great heart for his best test tomorrow.

Happy Ending went away about two lengths in front of Tactile and Rustic Lad. Tactile sprinted up racing to the the straight and won with a lot in hand by a narrow margin from Rustic Lad, with a length to Happy Ending after recording 3min 18 l-ssec, the

last half-mile in lmin 2sec, and the final quarter in 29 l-ssec.

No definite driving engagements have been made for Jay Ar and Garcon d’Or, from G. B. Noble’s stables in the Grand Final tomorrow. If Noble drives Jay Ar, Gareon d’Or will be driven by J. B. Noble. If he decides to drive the chestnut, Jay Ar will be driven by D. Mjangos, who wilt travel to Dunedin tomorrow in case his services are required. J. A. Carmichael will drive Trade Fair, the second string from W. R. Butt’s team.

The Victorian trotter, Corop McElwin, will be a certain starter at the New

Brighton meeting tomorrow week. He is to return to Melbourne by ship and space will not be available for two or three weeks.

Corop McElwin’s trainer, G. Gath, will return home later this week and the horse will be left at Forbury Park with R. H. Robinson, who looked after him on his arrival in this country. Unless there is an unexpected delay, the chances of any other Australian horses racing at the New Brighton meeting seem remote. The aircraft, which is due to take them back home on Friday, is due back in Christchurch on March 10 to take a load of six horses to the United States.

Official Stamps Because of the wide use now being made of automatic stamping machines by Government departments, it has been decided to discontinue issuing official stamps. The present Queen Elizabeth set is to be withdrawn from sale at post offices at the close of business on March 31. The official 5s stamp, overprinted on the green “arms” type paper, is also to be withdrawn on the same date. Official stamps will, however, remain on sale at the stamps section of the postal division, General Post Office, Wellington, until the end of this year.
