. Situation.—An anti-cyclone lies over the western Tasman Sea; an active cold front is advancing north-eastwards across the South Island. Forecast:

Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast. —Southwest winds slowly moderating; weather cold and showery.

Nelson, Central Marlborough and the Sounds. —Southerly winds, fresh to strong in exposed places; variable skies with occasional showers persisting during the day in the ranges, but clearing elsewhere; cold temperatures.

Buller and Westland.—Moderate south-west winds; showery at first, but clearing during the day; cooler temperatures.

Outlook: a few showers in eastern districts, elsewhere partly cloudy. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
