Careless Driving

(N.Z. Press Association) OTAKI, Feb. 28.

David James Malanaphy, a taxi-driver, of Feilding, was fined £2O and disqualified from driving for 12 months when he appeared at Otaki on a charge of careless driving causing death. He pleaded not guilty. A passenger in the taxi died of injuries when the vehicle ran into a bridge near Manakau on December 4. Mr D. G. Sinclair, S.M., ruled that the disqualification would take effect from the end of March conditional on Malanaphy not driving in the meantime in the dark.

The Magistrate granted the postponement on being told by defence counsel, Mr P. D. Cullinane, that the sale of the licence was pending.
