Sterilised Catholic

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 27.

A British Roman Catholic woman who was sterilised after the birth of her sixth child in six years revealed last night that she had since been refused the sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion.

Mrs Mary Feeney, aged 27, said: “Sterilisation was my only hope of salvation.” Her husband, Thomas, said last night at their Birmingham, Warwickshire, home: “We knew what were were doing was wrong in the eyes of the Church.” He said his wife had been in poor health and their marriage had been breaking up. A gynaecologist performed the operation after the couple satisfied him they had no religious scruples.
