(2) LECTURESHIP IN LITERATURE. The salary for a Readership Is £A4300 p.a. and the range for a Lectureship is £A2400/110/3170 p.a. Superannuation will be similar to F.S.S.U. in both cases. The department offers courses in English Literature from Chaucher onwards at the pass and honours level and post-graduate training for the M.A. degree. It encourages students to take active part in dramatic productions in a workshop theatre, The Dolphin, in a garden theatre, The Sunken Garden, and in a replica of The Fortune Theater, 1600. The University is building a permanent indoor theatre to seat approximately 450 and it is expected that this will open in 1967. Besides taking charge of undergraduate courses in drama the Reader will be expected to encourage and direct postgraduate research projects in the field of theatre-history and drama and/or to encourage and supervise dramatic productions in the various university theatres. Research in the Department is largely in the fields of plant chemistry, phenol oxidation and solvent effects on reaction mechanisms.
