Average Now £lB (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 26. The average weekly earnings of British manual workers have risen 54 per cent in the eight years to October last year. This was almost twice as fast as the cost of living which rose 28.8 per cent since January, 1956, the Labour Ministry announced. The figures covered 6,500,000 manual workers and their average earnings were calculated on the weekly wage plus overtime. Since last October wages had risen another 2.8 per cent to bring the working man’s average wage to £lB 2s 2d. The average wage for women employed full time was £8 19s Id.
