£5OOO Rise In Stakes

MELBOURNE, Feb. 26.
The Victoria Racing Club today announced a prize of £30,000 for this year’s Melbourne Cup. and £20,000 for this year’s Victoria Derby.
Stakes for both races are £5OOO higher than those allotted last year. The Melbourne Cup stakes are the highest ever and the £20,000 for the Derby is the highest ever alloted to a classic in Australia.
