FOUNDER’S DAY
Local Scouts Celebrate
More than 1000 scouters, scouts, cubs, girl guides, and brownies took part in organised activities in Christchurch during the week-end in the Boy Scouts’ Association’s celebration of Founder’s Day. In Christchurch’s 14 scout zones at least 150 boys of each zone took part in camp rallies or attended Founder’s Day services. In eight zones camping competitions to find those teams which will compete for the area camping cup were held. The winner of the area cup will go to the national competitions to be held at Tatum Park, Levin. Scouts from Hanmer Springs to Kaiapoi attended the first camp to be held on the scouts’ recently purchased area at Kaiapoi.
On Saturday many girl guides and brownies set off smoke pots on the high ground about Christchurch as part of a national effort by the scout and guide movements to rekindle the interest of former members in the groups’ present activities.
PAKISTAN and China have signed an agreement for a 60million dollar interest-free Chinese loan offered by Peking last July. Pakistan will repay the loan entirely by exports to China.
