“TALE OF WOES”

Faster Runs In Aust.

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) KARACHI, Feb. 21

Major Mohammad Saeed, manager of the Pakistan cricket team which returned today after a tour of Australia and New Zealand, said Pakistani batsmen had scored over a run a minute in Australia. He was commenting to reporters at Karachi airport on New Zealand press reports which had described matches in that country as “a tale of woes.”

He admitted there had been criticism in New Zealand of Pakistan's slow batting but added that the scoring rate always depended on many factors—the state of the game, conditions of play, and so on. Major Saeed said the tour had done a tremendous amount of good to Pakistan cricket. It had been a happy tour and the players had done well.

“The present bunch of Pakistani cricketers will make a very fine side, although we may make some changes in the present team.” The team had made good impressions in Australia where it had been compared with the West Indian XI. As a result a full tour had been suggested, while New Zealand was also keen on greater frequency of tours with Pakistan.

The captain, Hanif Mohammad. said: “We have achieved everything with a young side.”
