Abduction Charge
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 19. An Australian detective was in the Magistrate’s Court this morning when 68-year-old Charles Gillen appeared on remand on an Australian charge of abducting a 15-year-old girl 10 years ago. Gillen was arrested last Friday morning on a provisional warrant for abducting Cornelia Carmen McQuade, aged 15, in Sydney, on December 30, 1955. He was charged in the Magistrate’s Court after the arrest and was remanded to today to allow the original warrant for Gillen’s arrest to be sent from Australia. The warrant, and a detec-tive-sergeant from Sydney, who was in Court this morning, arrived during the week. Mr R. L. Fisher, appearing for Gillen, this morning requested a further week’s remand. Gillen was remanded in custody by Mr J. B. Thomson, S.M.
