Confident Note For London Wool

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, February 19.

The London February wool sales opened today with catalogues comprising approximately 25,000 bales, and selling will continue tomorrow. Of this quantity, some 18.700 bales from New Zealand include 11,300 greasy 4200 scoured and 3200 slipes

London Wool Brokers, Ltd., i and the London agency of the New Zealand Wool Commission in their joint report state that the sales opened on a confident note. Under wide competition greasy fine crossbreds were a firm market at prices par to 2 J per cent higher than at the close of the previous i sales on January 22. Greasy medium cross-breds i showed no change, but coarse qualities were barely up to: January levels.

Scoured cross-breds were mostly par to 2J per cent dearer with lambs showing an improvement of fully 21 per cent. Only a small quantity of slipes appeared in the catalogues, but judged on the wools offered, prices were generally slightly above January rates. Greasy Wools The offering of New Zealand greasy wools is made up ■ largely of cross-breds in the I medium to fine range of . qualities and comprises a good selection from dry shearings in the North Island. Most districts are represented in a fairly comprehensive offering of scoured wools. The greater part of the offering is in medium and fine cross-bred qualities but it includes a fair proportion of Merino and halfbred wools, mainly from Canterbury. Some early spring lambs are included in the slipe offering, but it is largely i made up of a miscellaneous selection from late pullings of last season.
