Disarmament Move

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright > LONDON, Feb. 21 The British Prime Minister (Mr Wilson) yesterday said the Government was preparing to take the initiative in nuclear disarmament. He said his Government had the only Minister of Disarmament in the world—Lord Chalfont. Mr Wilson did not give any details of the move. Earlier this month Lord Chalfont said Britain would try to break “the hopeless deadlock”

between the rival United States and Soviet plans at the 17-nation Geneva Disarmament Conference. Diplomats said the Government was concentrating on three major proposals: An agreement to stop the spread of nuclear weapons; A freeze of nuclear weapons at their prepresent level as a first step, to be followed by their reduction; Extension of the 1963 partial nuclear test ban agreement to cover underground explosions.
