Doctor Not Guilty

NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 18. After a retirement of 40 minutes, the jury reached a verdict of not guilty in the retrial of a Stratford medical practitioner, Bruce Wyville Rutherfurd, aged 47, in the Supreme Court at New Plymouth today. Rutherfurd pleaded not guilty to a charge that on July 20, 1964, he had, with intent to procure a miscarriage, unlawfully used a uterine sound on a woman aged 25, who later died. The Judge was Mr Justice Haslam. Mr J. P. Quilliam was the Crown Prosecutor and. Rutherfurd was represented by Mr J. R. P. Horn, with him Mr C. E. H. Pledger.
