Selwyn Now Certain To Win Table Tennis
With two matches remaining to be played, Selwyn has already won the senior table tennis championship. Selwyn’s win over Wallabies- II during the latest round opened a six-point gap between it and its closest rival, Wallabies 111.
R. M McCallum (Selwyn) was once again on top form and his only serious challenge came from R. G. Hart, who extended him to three games. Mrs T. May and R. J. Sanderson also played well for the championship winner and Selwyn again won the three doubles matches.
In a close contest, University I defeated Wallabies I, 7-5, although University’s top points scorer, M. R. Spinks, failed to win a singles. J. Moen and G. R. Saunders (University) played well and each won three singles. M. Coppen and R. H. Court proved too good for the young Dallington side and led University II to a 9-3 victory. Wallabies 111 retained second position in the competition by one point, defeating /vonside, 9-3. B. T. Edwards (Wallabies) gave a good display for his side by winning his three singles.
