More Wine Drinkers

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 17, , New Zealanders were drinking twice as much wine as they did 10 years ago, the J Secretary for Industries and ' Commerce, Dr. W. B. Sutch, : said in an address to the 1 Master Grocers’ annual conference at Masterton. 1 New Zealand was producing ! four out of every five bottles 1 sold in the country, he said. The wine had ' improved in . quality in the last 10 years : and gold medal awards had been achieved in all classes by New Zealand producers. Imported wine was now more varied, but its quantity had not improved much in 10 years. The acreage of grapes grown in New Zealand had increased by 12 per cent and the wine industry would be producing three times, as much as at present if the growth rate continued. Much of it would be available for export.
