First Woman

Principal Dr. Fanaefl Fuatino Tuitogamatoe To’o-maiai, Samoa’s first and only Ph D., is on her way home to become the first woman principal for her country’s teachers’ training college.

Miss Maiai has been a lecturer in education at Victoria University, a position she took up since her return from London five years ago, after studying for her Ph.D. at London University. Miss Maiai is a direct descendant of King Malietoa Tavita and the Flame of Lotofaga of Samoa and Aiono Tavita.

She is one of a family of three. An older brother is a doctor of medicine and a

younger sister is a school teacher in Wellington.
