Marrying In Church She Painted
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 17.
A 23-year-old Tawa resident, Miss Patsy Kilford, will be married on Saturday in the church she has spent the last few weeks repainting.
For weeks Miss Kilford, who runs a hairdressing salon in Tawa, has been decorating the interior of the new Tawa Baptist Church.
Next Saturday she will put away her working clothes and assume a bridal gown. Seventeen years ago Miss Kilford attended the first meeting held in the old Baptist Church. She will now be the first to be married in the new one.
In between these times she has run the Girls* Life Brigade cadets, and sung in the church choir. She is also a member of the local skating club.
Volunteer workers, including the bride-to-be. will be very busy the next few nights getting the church ready for the wedding and the church opening on Sunday afternoon.
About 35 volunteers have worked every Saturday for a month and on week nights to get the church ready. The minister of the church, the Rev. F. A. Duncan, himself a volunteer worker, said: “There has been real interest among local people. “When the contractors, due to unforseen circumstances, fell behind with the work, local builders not necessarily Baptists came in to help.”
