Complaint y Candidate A member of th'# Canterbury Drivers’ UnioH, Mr R. R. D. Smith, yesterfliy said he knew of at least three members in the, Christchurch area who./had not received ballot papers far the election of the union president. The ballot closed on Tuesday afternoon. IMras being counted yesterdi ly. Mr Smith is a candidate for president He is/ standing against the present president (Mr L. Peachy)?. Mr Smith said'/tthat he had been in touch witib the returning officer (/Mr T. S. Kotlowski, of the Department of Labour). Mr Kotlowski had told him tfaat he would have to give ti ro days* notice to have the ’baillot declared null and void.y. The district I superintendent of the depart) hent (Mr C. P. Collins) said t!h/at the department was svinplied with a certified copy- of the list of financial mei/njbers of the union at Jaiintjiry 29. The papers had t'*ftn sent to all those whose names were on the list. If anyone was not satisfied the department could take uprthe matter with the Registrant of Industrial Unions. ButpHe onus was on that person to establish that he had a case.
