Official Report

The official report on yesterday's wool sale, issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association In conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuvers' Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission, says: "The sixth Christchurch sale of the 1964-65 season was held at the Wool Exchange building when four catalogues totalling 24,227 bales were submitted. The effects of the unfavourable growing season were again apparent and while there was a sprinkling of bright, clean lots the greater portion of the offering was carrying a fair amount of grease and some dust, while a number of clips were short in the staple and some tenderness was apparent. Ewe wool formed the bulk of the offering, with a small quantity of woolly and shorn hoggets and a few Merino clips. Piece wools and oddments were about up to their usual standard for this sale.

"The sale opened before a representative bench of buyers, with keen and general competition, especially for the better sorts.

“Continental buyers again dominated the market with support from Bradford and America for suitable sorts. Japan was mainly interested in Down and Down Cross wools, and local mills were active on the better style halfbreds. "Compared with the last Christchurch sale the market was in sellers’ favour for halfbreds and very firm for fine crossbreds; but slightly easier

for coarse crossbreds compared with Wellington. There was a good clearance at auction." Tne following is the official range of prices:— d d
