All Monk

In response to many inquiries the Chamber Music Federation has announced that concerts given by the Thelonius Monk Quartet would be entirely devoted to the quartet.

The appearances by the quartet were not being arranged as a commercial venture but as concerts of serious musical importance and regardless of usual practices in arranging concerts by overseas jazz groups, the federation would adhere to its normal policy.

The federation’s concert manager, Miss J. Kerr, said she had been surprised at the number of inquiries from jazz musicians and members of the public whether there would be supporting artists. The first New Zealand concert by the quartet will be in Christchurch on Thursday, April 1, with a second Christchurch concert on Tuesday, April 13.
