DRAFT EWE FAIR
Demand Found Erratic (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, February 16. Fully 18,500 Romney and Romney cross ewes came forward for the annual draft ewe fair at Pleasant Point yesterday. The majority of the sheep were penned in good average condition, with few tail-end lots. The number of farmers following the auction was not large and the demand taken over all was erratic. Values exceeded last year’s on some lines and less was accepted on others. In the closing stages the market eased 5s to 6s a head and sales were difficult to complete. Values were:
Pre-natal shorn ewes (four years). 65s to 86s; good four and five-year ewes, 50s to 665: average five-year ewes, 46s to 525: two-shear ewes, 67s to 81s; three-shear ewes to 70s, Romney cross ewes, 63s to 725.
