RECENT DEVELOPMENT HAS NECESSITATED THE CREATION OF SEVERAL NEW, KEY POSITIONS, EACH CARRYING A WEIGHT OF EXECUTIVE OR PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY. NURSERY SUPERVISOR: A new position, in which oranising ability is more important than horticultural knowledge. The successful applicant will be at least 28 vears of age, and will organise and control the field labour‘force on the company’s 200 acres of nursery crops. These are spread over five properties within a 15 mile radius of New Plymouth; even with the use of 9 radio-controlled vehicles the position will be an exacting one The operations include planting, weed control, wrenching and lifting, and the new man will be responsible for ■upervising the use of the appropriate machinery. He will also have knowledge of (or be prepared to learn the complexities of) chemical weedicides, fungicides and insecticides, and their practical application in the field. COMMENCING SALARY: £l2OO PACKING SUPERVISOR: We need a man to organise our packing and despatch division. Requirements: must be able to control staff (includes a high proportion of casuals): able to co-ordinate the various operations involved; capable of constant attention to the details of correctly packing live material for despatch. A familiarity with the railways despatch system would be helpful. COMMENCING SALARY: £lO5O ASSISTANT PROPAGATORS: These will be additional to our present propagating staff. They will be men or women with previous propagating experience: or have served their time in the industry, or completed at least two years of a horticultural course at an agricultural college. Must be interested in pure propagation, primarily by cuttings. COMMENCING SALARY: (Males) £950 FOREMAN CONTAINER GROWING DIVISION: Requirements: at least 3 years’ full-time experience in growing plants in pots and containers, with sufficient knowledge to formulate correct soil mixtures, liquid feeding procedues etc; ability to control staff (15 to 20 at peak periods), and to co-operate with related divisions. COMMENCING SALARY: £950 All appointees will, after a specified period, qualify for our superannuation and bonus schemes. Some assistance will be given in moving to New Plymouth.
