WOMEN ON JURIES

(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, Feb. 16. The subject of feminine jurors was commented on by Mr Justice Hardie Boys in the Supreme Court, Gisborne, today, when women were called for jury service for the first time in the area. Women, said his Honour, had no different approach to the task or brought a difference in the result when they sat on his juries. He thought this also was the view of three other Auckland criminal court judges—but qualified his comment by saying it was too early yet to get a complete picture. He hoped care would be taken during long proceedings to see that women police officers as well as men would be present to take care of the women jurists. Ten women were sworn in for jury service from the 48 persons summoned, and two were empanelled on the jury for the first criminal case.
