CLUB WATER POLO

Wharenui Has Good Win

In a close match Wharenui. which has not shown form in recent games, combined well to defeat Fendalton, 3-2, in the club water polo competition. For Wharenui, P. McPharlane was solid in defence, while M. McGirr and J. Parker played good attacking games. Scorers for Wharenui were Parker (2) and R. Erickson.

H. Schout, who scored both Fendalton’s goals, played well up front, while F. Sellen, In the backs, and T. Harris, in goal, showed good form. University had very little trouble in defeating Elmwood, 8-3. T. Gunthrop (3 goals), P. Jack (2), and A. McPhail (2), were in good shooting form for University, while P. Hatchwell and R. Leek, who scored a goal each, were the best of the others.

For Elmwood, B. Moore, N. Chamberlain, and A. McKenzie scored a goal each. In place of the junior games the New Zealand water polo team, which assembled in Christchurch before departing for a tour of Australia, defeated Canterbury, 7-5. For New Zealand, T. Gunthrop, W. Martelew and A. Kocis were in good form, while C. Bird was outstanding in goal. For Canterbury. L. Mclntosh, U. Scott and P. Hatchwell stood out.
