CLOSTRIDIAL DISEASES

Experiments Detailed

A paper on the factors influencing the transfer from ewes to lambs of antibodies against certain clostridial diseases was read to the conference of the New Zealand Veterinary Association yesterday by Mr B. S. Cooper, of Palmerston North. The paper dealt with experiments conducted at the Jennersmead vaccine testing and research farm with two different vaccines used on 32 Romney ewes. The results of the experiment clearly showed that a variety of factors influenced the degree of immunity transferred by a vaccinated ewe to her lamb, the paper said. The very great variation in lamb protection emphasised animal individuality and the folly of neglecting good stock husbandry.
