Win For D.L.P. (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Feb. 10. Mr Frank McManus, the Democratic Labour Party’s chief candidate, was yesterday confirmed as winner of the fifth Senate seat in Victoria. This means that the Lib-eral-Country Party Government will lose its majority in the Senate from next July, when Senators who were victorious in the December elections take their seats. The Commonwealth electoral officer for Victoria, Mr C. J. Lack, announced the final figures and Mr McManus’s win. The announcement came 66 days after the election was held and after the original counting of votes was stopped and a complete recount made. The recount was sought by the Liberal Party candidate. Senator Hannan, and began on January 13 after the full High Court had rejected a D. application to prevent it. After distribution of preferences, Mr McManus finished with a vote of 331,404 — 92,589 more than the quota needed for election.
