READY FOR MISSION. —Six of the seven Indian Army transport mules used by the search party which found the bodies of Scott, Wilson, and Bowers on the Ross Ice Barrier nearly eight months after they had died on their return journey from the South Pole. The mules are shown on Quail Island before they were taken south from Lyttelton in the Terra Nova.
RIGHT.— Lieutenant H. L. L. Pennell, R.N., who commanded the Terra Nova on her second trip to the Antarctic in 1911, with two Siberian huskies on the beach at Quail Island. The Terra Nova carried 14 huskies when she left Lyttelton on December 15.
