SIBERIAN HUSKIES on the beach at Quail Island before they were taken from Lyttelton to the Antarctic in the Terra Nova. On the left is Lieutenant H. L. L. Pennell, who commanded the Terra Nova on her second voyage south. The man on the right is probably Mr J. Thomas, the caretaker on the island, who helped members of Scott’s last expedition to look after the huskies and the Indian Army transport mules used by the search party which found the bodies of Scott, Wilson, and Bowers.
