UNIVERSITY VACANCIES 1 THE UNIVERSITY OP ADELAIDE AT BEDFORD PARK SCHOOL OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES SENIOR LECTURER OR LECTURER (TWO POSITIONS) APPLICATIONS are invited from candidates in the fields of animal physiology, plant physiology or biochemistry for two positions of Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences in the University of Adelaide at Bedford Park. The salary ranges at present are: Senior Lecturers: £A3250-£llO- - Lecturers: £A2400-£llO-£3170. Superannuation is on the F.S.S.U. pattern. Successful applicants will be expected to initiate independent research programmes and to supervise postgraduate research students; they will also assist in the development of integrated undergraduate courses in biology. Professor A. M. Clark (genetics and cell physiology) has been apointed Chairman of the School of Biological Sciences and Professor M. R. Atkinson (biochemistry), and Professor A. Hope (biophysics) have been appointed to the other initial professorial posts in the School. It is hoped that the emphasis in teaching and research will be on morphogenesis, control of growth, and the biophysical aspects of cell structure and function. Teaching will begin in 1966 with first-year undergraduates and post-gradu-ate students. The date at which the successful applicants will take up duty may be arranged with them after their appointment, but will preferably be in or about January, 1966. Applicants should have special interests in the field of Political Thought or Political Institutions. Two appointments will be made at Senior Lecturer/Lecturer level. The salary ranges at present are:— > Senior Lecturer: £A3250-£llO- - Lecturer: £A2400-£llO-£3170. Superannuation is on the F.S.S.U. pattern. The University is developing a second campus at Bedford 1 Park, seven miles south of Adelaide, where teaching will begin in March, 1966. The academic work at Bedford Park will be organised in Schools of Language and Literature. Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences; and will be under the control of the Bedford Park academic staff. Construction of new buildings to house the four academic Schools, the Library and the Union has begun. DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS APPLICATIONS are invited for the following appointments in the Department of Mathematics (Head of Department: Professor B. H. Neumann, F.A.A., F.R.S.): 1. Professorial Fellow. 2. Senior Research Fellow. 3. Research Fellow. The Department is concerned with research and training in research, in Theory of Groups, Theory of Numbers, Abstract Algebra, Functional Analysis, Non-linear Differential Equations. and various aspects of applied mathematics. The salary of a Professorial Fellow is £A4BOO. Appointment is made for an initial period of five years; thereafter he may be re-appointed until retiring age. A Professorial Fellow is entitled to one year’s study leave on full pay, plus a contribution towards travel and other expenses, in every six years of service. The salary of a Senior Research Fellow is determined in the range £3390-4050 and of a Research Fellow in the range £A2400-3150. Appointment is usually for three years, with a possible extension to five years. Superannuation ,is on the F.S.S.U. pattern with supplementary benefits. Reasonable travel expenses are paid (both ways for posts 2 and 3) and assistance with housing is provided. The Department is concerned wholly with postgraduate training and research, and the greater part of the Professorial Fellow’s time will be available for his own research. He will also be entitled to twelve months* study leave after each five years of service. The salary will be £A4BOO a year; F.S.S.U. type superannuation with supplementary benefits will apply; reasonable travel expenses will be provided for the successful applicant, his wife and children; and assistance with housing is provided.
