SHEEP AND GRASS SEED
A 26-year-old, 2600-ton, Danish motor-vessel will leave Lyttelton this afternoon for the Straits of Magellan. She is the Lauritzen Line’s Indian Reefer which has Just completed discharging Pacific Islands bananas at Lyttelton. In addition to carrying about 87 stud Corriedale and Romney sheep for Chile, Argentina and Uruguay, she will take 30 tons of mixed grass seeds. She is due at Punta Arenas on February 19 or 20 and at Buenos Aires on February 23. Upon completion of discharge af Buenos Aires, she will load fruit for Rotterdam where she is due on March 19, and also for Hamburg.
A quarter of a century ago, Punta Arenas and the River Plate, were regular ports of cal! for homeward bound cargo liners from New Zealand.
