EXERCISE AT LAKE

Transport Force Training Camp

The Third Transport Company of the Royal New Zealand Army Service Corps has started its annual 14-day training camp at Burnham and Lake Rotoiti. The territorial and Regular Force members of the unit, from Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill, assembled at Burnham last evening. On Sunday the 'unit will move by road to Lake Rotoiti by way of Culverden, Hanmer, Island Pass, and the Upper Wairau Valley. Exercises, including jungle survival, marches, jungle range shooting, cross-country driving and the flotation of men and vehicles will be held at Rotoiti. The programme has been designed to increase the combat readiness of the unit and prepare it for operations in South-east Asian conditions.

Next Thursday an Air Force Bristol Freighter from Woodbourne will drop rations to the unit,in 23 packages each of 2001 b, and on Tuesday the unit will be visited by the Chief of the General Staff (Major-General L. W. Thornton).
