No Surprises In Last 16 (N.Z. Press Association! DUNEDIN, Februay 4. There were no surprises when the fours field of the New Zealand women's bowling tournament was reduced to the last 16 today. The winner of seven national titles, Mrs S. Winstanley (Marewa, East Coast), after a close tussle in the morning, had a relatively easy afternoon win over Mrs R. Darling (Leith, Dunedin), 20-10. In the morning Mrs Winstanley beat Mrs D, Jensen (Kaikorai), 16-14. With the assistance of a bye, two teams—Mrs J. Wilkie (Lower Hutt) and Mrs G. Smith (Kaiapoi)—have already made their way into the quarter-finals. Results:

Long Swim.—Brojen Das, of Pakistan, a former holder of the English Channel swimming record, hopes to set a new record this year. He is aiming at a time of 9hr to beat the present record of 9hr 35min held by Barry Watson (Britain). Das’s previous best time was lOhr 30mfn.—(PJL)
