AUST. WOOL SALES

Firm Tone At Close (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY, February 4. Very strong competition continued on the closing day of the Sydney series No. 11 wool sales from buyers operating on behalf of Japan, the Continent, and Eastern Europe, well supported by the United Kingdom and, at times, Australian mills. When compared with the improved level of values experienced the previous day, the market for all descriptions of Merino fleece and skirtings continued to reflect the firming tendency, with prices ruling in sellers’ favour and at the highest point of the week. Comeback, crossbred and carding wools participated in the keen demand and rates for these types also showed a hardening tendency. Crossbred prices: 50’s super, 683 d; 60’s good, 69d; 50’s good average, 61d.
