£53 In Box A collection box placed in Cathedral square yesterday morning for the Winston Churchill Memorial Fund had donations amounting to £52 16s 9d when it was cleared late yesterday afternoon. The box was opened early yesterday by the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) and throughout the day was guarded by men of the Ist New Zealand Regiment. Among the latest donations of £5O or more received in Christchurch are those of Mrs L. J. Cropp, £100; Weston, Ward and Lascelles, £52 10s; Griffiths, Moffat and partners, £5O; J. Ballantyne and Company, Ltd., £500; Midland Motorway Services Ltd., £250; anonymous charitable trust, £100; Dr. D. McK. Dickson and Mrs Dickson, £5O; Butler Cycle and Motor Company, Ltd., £lOO. Money for the fund held by the City Council has now reached £ll5l 8s 3d.
