LABOUR’S LEAD
Poll Shows Decrease
Crjpdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Jan. 20. For the second successive month the Gallup poll, published by the “Daily Telegraph,” shows Labour’s political lead over the Conservatives has fallen. Even so, it remains at 8 per cent, which would give Labour a healthy majority at a general election. The Labour loss of 2 per cent is mainly accounted for by a 3J per cent increase in the number of “don’t knows” since December, says the “Daily Telegraph.” This movement is accompanied by a big drop in the standing of the Government. In December, 48 per cent approved and only 30 per cent disapproved of the Government’s record to date. Today 35 per cent disapprove and 39 per cent approve. The standing of the present Government is lower than that of the Conservative Government immediately before the last election, 42 per cent.
