The University plans to develop a programme of Asian studies and as a first step has decided to establish a department of Asian languages teaching one or more such language. Preference will be given in the first instance to Chinese language and literature, but applications are also invited from persons qualified In some other major Asian language, e.g., Japanese or Hindi. Salary: The basic professorial salary is £NZ32SO per annum, but 'it is within the power of the Council to make appointments at; £NZ34OO per annum and £NZ37OO per annum having regard to the qualifications of the candidates concerned.
