WARNING SHOTS
Police Action ‘Justified’
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Jan. 6. The firing of warning shots by a Christchurch detective after a man failed to stop when ordered in the early hours of December 31, was justified, the Commissioner of Police (Mr C. L. Spencer) said today. “A full inquiry was made at Christchurch, and as a result, taking into consideration all the circumstances, including the time and the particular place, the action taken by the C. 1.8. officer in firing warning shots was justified in my opinion,” Mr Spencer said. Two shots were fired in warning when the man ran off after a high-speed car chase down Memorial avenue.
