Paint, No Popcorn

(N-Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

NEW YORK, Jan. 7.

Salvador Dali, the Spanish artist, gave a demonstration of “action painting" on television last night. In less than a minute, Dali rapidly drew 50 arcs, waves and dashes and ended by throwing paint on to the middle of the canvas.

He asked the television company to sell it for the benefit of New York firemen.

The compere of the show, Mr L. Crane, said Dali had asked for the interview to take place in a large glass cylinder which was slowly being filled with popcorn.

It would end when Dali and Crane were submerged by popcorn, he said.

This was not attempted.
