LYTTELTON TRAINS

Meeting To Be Called

No alterations are to be made in the ChristchurchLyttelton railway passenger timetable until the matter has been discussed at a meeting to be called early in the New Year, according to advice received by Mr N. E. Kirk, member of Parliament for Lyttelton, from the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine). In a letter to Mr Kirk, Mr McAlpine says the meeting will be convened in Christchurch by the Railways Department to discuss the proposed reduction in the present timetable. “It is intended that the meeting should be representative of all interested parties and in addition to the usual invitations the meeting will be advertised in the press.” Mr Kirk said last night he was pleased to hear that the meeting would be held. He hoped that all those affected, such as port employers, port workers, residents, local authorities and residents’ organisations would take the opportunity to be present.
