B Team 245 Against Hutt

"The Press" Special Service HUTT VALLEY, Jan. 5. Some solid batting by the middle order batsmen gave the Canterbury B team the respectable total of 245 in its match against Hutt Valley today after the opening batsmen had failed. The match is the major one of the B team's tour, and the Hutt Valley team, except for one change, is the same as that played in the Hawke Cup challenge against Nelson. T. Watson, a lively opening bowler, broke through the Canterbury opening batsmen, but a sound partnership between R. Thomas and G. A. Bartlett improved matters. Bartlett batted particularly well, but lost his wicket when looking set for a big score. However. J. W. Burtt, with crisp, well-placed strokes, took over, and in a good partnership witb E. B. Hignett, took the total over 200.

Hutt Valley batted solidly and the Canterbury bowlers will have a hard task tomorrow to restrict their scoring. CANTERBURY B First Innings B. A. Bolton, lbw, b Watson 8 J. A. Mills, b Watson .. 3 M.
