Dashing Star Succeeds

(New Zealand Press Association.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 27. Unplaced at her last four starts, the Te Aroha mare, Dashing Star, made the pace almost throughout the feature event and first leg of the double on the first day of the Taranaki Jockey Club’s Christmas meeting on Saturday, the Walter Weston Memorial Handicap, to score a comfortable win. Super Time won the second leg, the Gordon’s Gin Handicap, and the double returned £44 16s for one pound. The stipendiary stewards inquired into the running of Solly Joel, the favourite in the Walter Weston Memorial Handicap. It was found that Solly Joel, which finished last, had shown signs of soreness since last racing, but had not missed any work. It was felt the hard track aggravated the soreness.
