TROTTING Lochgair, Mighty Chief For Ashburton Double

The four-year-olds, Lochgair and Mighty Chief, may form the winning doubles combination at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s summer meeting on Saturday. Lochgair will be opposed by a useful field in file first leg, the Ashburton Cup, while Mighty Chief will receive spirited opposition in the Winslow Handicap, his first attempt in top trotting company.

Lochgair will be strongly supported on Saturday to make amends for a rather disappointing fifth in the President’s Handicap at the New Brighton meeting early in the month. LochgaiPs previous form was of a high standard and even from 24 yards, his chances in this field are highly rated.

Spring Garrison is one of the most improved horses in his class this season. He has had two wins and six placings from 13 starts and with a little luck his record could have been much better.

Pancho Boy is another front-marker expected to make a bold showing. He has shown his best form up to 13 furlongs, but there is no reason why he should not master a solid two miles. He will be bracketed with the veteran pacer. Marquess, a good third in the President’s Handicap at Addington on December 5. Lady Charles has found it difficult to obtain a first win for the season, but her most recent efforts have been impressive. She has been running on strongly from well back and looks to be on the verge of worth-while form. Bonnieburn. Soanfra. Massacre and Safe Return are others expected to race prominently. Mighty Chief was a laststart winner at Addington on November 21 after trotting the 13 furlongs in the splendid time of 3min 29 l-ssec. If he trots as well, he should just about win the Winslow Handicap. He was driven in his latest win by M. Holmes, who will be behind Harbour Light in this race. Mighty Chiefs owner-trainer, L. R. Clark, said yesterday that he was not certain who would drive the horse on Saturday, but he might drive him himself. Asia Minor finished a dose third in the Agfa Thousand on December 5 at his most recent start He is in fine form at present and should be capable of extending Mighty Chief. Queen’s Cord, one of the outstanding trotters at the

cup meeting last month, Robert Medoro, Harbour Light, Uteena and Flaming Way are other entitled to consideration. Fields, with form, for the T.A.B. double race, are:
