SAVINGS DIRECTOR

Post Office

Position

f.V.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. A new position of director of savings has been created in the Post Office, the Pastmaster General (Mr Scott) said today. Mr Scott said up to the present time the financial accounts of the department and the savings bank had administratively been under a single control. With the heavy volume of savings business being handled by the Post Office and the large amount at deposit, together with the entry of many competitors into the savings field, it had been decided to separate the savings organisation from the financial accounts.

This would give it a singleness of purpose and a measure of autonomy which was considered to be necessary in the changed circumstances and under present conditions. Mr Scott said a savings bank division would be created and this would be headed by the director of savings. A director of accounts would continue to control the financial accounts of the Post Office.

Mr H. W. Hay would be the new director of savings and Mr A. R. Bamford the director of accounts. Both appointments would date from April 1 next year.
