300 Evacuated In One Area (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 21. Torrential rains and shrieking winds slammed into northern California today, leaving behind sin of rain on the northern coast and prompting the evacuation of hundreds of persons in rural Humboldt county. More heavy rain and gale-
force winds were forecast for tomorrow.
“It’s not possible to foresee the end of this stormy weather at this time,” a weather forecaster said.
About 300 persons were evacuated from their homes in Weott and Myer flat, about 60 miles south of Eureka along the coast, as the Eal river climbed toward flood stage, expected sometime tomorrow morning.
In the lower Eel valley, 12 miles from Eureka, the river was expected to inundate about 50,000 acres of farm land tomorrow. Large herds of cattle and machinery were moved to higher ground today.
