The University of Otago is able to admit to its second-year medical classes in 1965 50 per cent of the applications without special qualifications who have passed the intermediate examinations. This compares with 44 per cent non-preference applicants admitted to the medical school this year and 51 per cent last year. The total number of qualified applicants was 221, according to a statement issued today after a meeting of the University Council. The numbers of applicants with the admissions in parentheses are: University of Otago, 145 students (69); University of Canterbury 22 (10); Victoria University 33 (14); University of Auckland, 18 (8); and Massey University 3 (1).
