EXTENDED TERM

Two Years For Police Head (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 15. The term of office of the Commissioner of Police, Mr C. L. Spencer, would be extended a further two years after his official retiring date next May, said the Minister of Police (Mr Allen) today. The Minister said in a statement the extra two years came after the passing of a bill during the last Parliamentary session extending the term should it be felt desirable. “Because many senior police officers have retired in the last year, and several more are scheduled to retire in the next year or so, it was deemed advisable to retain the services of Mr Spencer during this important stage of police development,” he said.

Mr Allen said the move would also help the more senior police officers to obtain greater experience in the higher administrative positions.
