Tax Officers To Retire
Three senior officers of the Inland Revenue Department in Christchurch who will retire in the New Year were bidden farewell last night at the department’s annual social evening and dance. The retiring officers are Mr J. G. Mclntosh, district commissioner, Mr W. I. N. King, first assistant district commissioner, and Mr L. Alexander, a section officer. Each has had 40 years’ service with the Government. In wishing the three officers
well in their retirement Mr D. C. Duff, senior inspector for the State Services Commission in Christchurch, said their retirement in the Public Service today could belong to the old soldier who just faded away or to those on whom it was pressed. “Here we have a total of 120 years’ service and experience, and the department is the loser for their going. I thank you for your long and faithful setvice,” Mr Duff said.
Other speakers were Mr D. A. Stevens, deputy-commis-sioner of the department, who extended the best wishes of all its members throughout New Zealand, and Mr S. J. France, an assessor, representing the department in Christchurch.
In reply Mr Mclntosh said that only a few weeks ago he thought it would be he who would be bidding the other two officers farewell, but he had since joined them himself.
